MyCasting

Allow me to coin a phrase. Okay so, there is really nothing original about saying "MyCast" (have a look what others are doing with the term. I am sure not talking weather) in fact, this concept is everywhere these days but I feel the bottom line of all of the new distribution models and user generated content results in what Jarvis say about the consumer as network programmer.

I was watching Reliable Sources on CNN this morning and the topic was GooTube (what a shock!). They showed a clip from Jeff Jarvis's You Tube Video and he said a number of things that I really liked. Below is and bullets of the thing I loved:

  • "Explosion of the new television"

    • The idea of the exploding TV is interpreted by some as the end of TV. What Jarvis is saying is not the end of TV in fact it is quite the opposite.

  • "The Worlds Largest TV Guide"

  • "With YouTube what Google Gets is People"

  • "YouTube made television social"

  • "[you tube] turned us into network programmers"

  • Putting ads where the people are

  • "The Google Nichecasting Networks"

Who are you Yahoo?

A recent article in the New York Times discussed the increasing woes for Internet giant Yahoo. To be honest, the only thing I ever use on Yahoo as a consumer is Flikr but, as mentioned on The Daily Search Cast, Flikr is not always as easy to use for the not-too-savvy individual as some would hope. For those who do not already have a Yahoo account, creating a Flikr account can be a deterrent and their are too many other services out there for consumers to spend time filling out yet another profile.

As someone in the industry, I must say that I am not unhappy to read such an article about Yahoo as, their search advertising platform leaves a lot to be desired. Google is simply light years ahead of Yahoo in terms of technology and customer support.

The question is, who are you Yahoo?

That fact is that Yahoo does a lot of things well but excels at none of them.

Second Music

Will the music industry be saved? In my eyes, it never was in danger of being lost as, I am not in the industry and do not really care what the future of the labels is as long as I got some good tunes. The true artist will always create regardless of industry. Besides this whole time the only for the artist was lack of syndication channels (which is not a threat anymore).

Even in years past, the cheddar was made (by the artist) through concerts and appearances, not record sales. It is great to see the labels entering second life and leveraging this relatively low cost means of generating buzz (and one day revenue).

On top of all that, it is pretty friggin cool!

Kill Your Television!

Ok, so I stole that headline but, I will lead you to it's authors. When I see a headline like that, I cannot resist!

Meet Revision 3 (for those who do not know it of course)

Yet another reason that I will be able to sleep at night knowing that I can get great video wherever I want, on my time!

When I went to the site's "about us" page I saw a very bold statement:

Revision3 is the first media company that gets it, born from the Internet, on-demand generation. Unlike aggregators, mash-ups, clients and web sites, Revision3 is an actual TV network for the web, creating, producing its own original entertainment and content.

I realize that this company was started by all stars but, I would love to hear more about why they feel they are the first media company to get it. I am not saying I am skeptical rather, this is my invitation for an of these guys to give us a little more on why they feel that what or, just plug Revision3 and get a new some new viewers

One of Many Posts Today/If I had $1.3 billion to spare.com

I am sure this is one of 1000 blog posts but, I had to comment!

A while back I was involved in this conversation about whether or not Google is a media company:

The Conversation

Are they a media company now?

Does the fact that You Tube tends to be consumer generated media exempt Google from being in the evil media industry that they are so desperately trying to avoid association with?

Do I think this is a good move you ask?

Nope

What is their about You Tube that cannot be had elsewhere?

Sure the audience is their but, they can just as easily go to Blip.tv or another social network/video site.

Does You Tube have superior technology?

 I don't think so.

I am confused with this one!

Rethinking MySpace

There have been many articles about a decline in social networking amongst younger people (although I have seen no stats to back this up).

In a recent article in Forbes one 26 year old talks about how he folded his My Space account in order to re-capture "that special depth that true friendship entails."

This is a pretty idealistic statement and while I enjoy the sentiment, I think it is a problem if you have ever let your use of MySpace supercede actual human contact. It is a tool that should be used to enhance relationships but, I do not think that a relationship could exist solely online.

Anyone who knows me knows I hate the overly commercial nature of My Space as it reminds me of the web circa 2000 so, I am really not too worried about its future!

Kominigarderoben

I have no idea what the title means but, this classy little microsite gets a 7 (1-10 of course) from me.

I read about this Ikea campaign on iMediaConnection and figured I would post some of my own comments on it.

Thoughts

  • Very big site apparently, it took forever to load

  • Classy look and feel, music adds a sense of elegance (I am not sure this fits the Ikea brand but, who I am to judge :) )

  • Adds Value (we know I love this one). The use of video here really displays the functionality of the furniture in the video and gives an interactive feel to the experience (even though the video is not REALLY interactive in the sense that you hit play and sit back)

Sorry For the Slow Down In Post!

I have been so busy lately and I am trying to keep up and bring all of you as much great content as possible. I have been a bit slow the last few days but, I will make up with it soon, I promise!

In the meantime, watch this lecture by Joseph Jaffe, it is a good one!
